At the Museum of Science and Curiosity (MOSAC) in Sacramento, visitors can learn about everything from space exploration to nature. There’s also a Water Challenge Exhibit, whose interactive displays are aimed at some of the museum’s younger visitors. Together, those displays illustrate how farmers across the state are working hard to conserve water.
Cultivate California and its nonprofit partner, California Farm Water Coalition, are two sponsors of the Water Challenge Exhibit. The coalition’s executive director, Mike Wade, says the goal is to emphasize the connection between farms and their water supplies, as well as the ways in which the agriculture community is striving to grow more food while using less water.
“Our water exhibits bring home the fact that water is essential to grow our food and that California farmers are leading the world in conserving it,” Wade stated in a press release last month. “It’s important that everyone know that farmers are using water in an efficient manner and that, as consumers, we all depend on farmers.”
On MOSAC’s website, a written description helps spell out the exhibit’s purpose, too. “Water Challenge lets you actively shape a watershed’s flow, create a tune for saving water at home, choose between local or non-local foods to buy based on how they impact conservation efforts — all while learning about your own environmental footprint,” it reads.
